Tones Teatro Natura

home-hero-1-2

In 2020, while theaters around the world are forced to close due to the pandemic, a stone theater surrounded by nature is born in the Ossola mountains.

This new, great project is called Tones Teatro Natura, combining the artistic roots of Tones on the Stones with the transformation of the former industrial site of Cava Roncino into a permanent Theater surrounded by Nature, through a process of profound environmental redevelopment.

Today, Tones Teatro Natura is a space dedicated to culture, the territory, and young citizens to whom it offers a courageous vision for the construction of a better and more sustainable future for all, based on the principles of Agenda 2030 and the European Green Deal. It is a strong symbol of rebirth, and at the same time a challenge that the Tones on the Stones Foundation has managed to face thanks to its 15 years of experience in events in the Ossola quarries and the constant synergy with numerous organizations, foundations, associations and companies that have joined forces to support this ambitious project.

Through two major interventions that took place in 2021-2022 and subsequently in 2025, the infrastructures to accommodate small and large shows are completed, with two stages and various accessory functions, such as a ticket office, a refreshment area, a bar area and services for the public. During 2025, the infrastructure was completed, with the implementation of the stage tower, the fine-tuning of the areas of the two stages, and permanent toilets, while in 2023 the first part of a path reserved for people with disabilities and a new permanent workshop area, dedicated to laboratories and study groups, had already been prepared.

The former Gneiss Quarry is located in Oira, a small hamlet of the Municipality of Crevoladossola surrounded by woods, terraced vineyards and ancient villages built in stone from the Ossola Valley. The surrounding landscape is a tangible sign of the history of the area, deeply linked to the extraction of stone and its processing. The Tones on the Stones Foundation has always narrated and promoted this historical, economic and cultural heritage, to preserve it over time.

We invite you to experience Tones Teatro Natura with us, making it yours; we invite you to love it and make it grow in a sustainable way and respectful of the wonderful environment and territory that hosts it.

The construction of Tones Teatro Natura

The architectural project by Fuzz Atelier

The project is configured as a site-specific intervention capable of enhancing the landscape context through a modular and flexible compositional strategy for different modes of use. The functional layout of the entire project is based on the geometric lines defined by the quarry, following the morphology of the landscape.

The work dialogues with the natural context and the history of the place, allowing a narrative continuity that draws its roots from the past, passing on to future generations the possibility of continuing to live in these spaces, contributing to their transformation.

A collective work

In recent years, more and more private companies have recognized the strategic value of Tones Teatro Natura, to give international visibility to the Ossola area, to strengthen the local identity and together become real engines of social development, to be part of a unique project in the world.

Today, from many fronts, we are defined as a national Best Case and we are very proud of this!

Thanks to a new contribution from Fondazione Cariplo and the Fondazione Comunitaria del VCO and the generous intervention of local and national companies, in 2025 we managed to complete the infrastructure and services of Tones Teatro Natura.

The companies involved today feel an active part: contributing to cultural growth means investing in collective well-being, social cohesion and the valorization of human and environmental resources. In this way, culture becomes a bridge between economy and community, demonstrating that sustainable development also passes through dialogue between public and private.
